Sustainable Science

S

Science taught through the natural world.

Children observe, explore, and create with what nature offers. Understanding sustainability grows from experience.

Children leave these units with a habit of noticing — and an instinct to care for the world around them.

  • Story-led units anchored in picture books
  • Outdoor exploration and nature collection
  • Sensory discovery activities
  • Art-making with natural materials

Technology

T

Technology is understood through the hands — touched, built, and played with.

Children explore how things work physically through constructive play, and open-ended design challenges.

The confidence to try, fail, and try again starts here.

  • STEAM building kits and construction play
  • Open-ended design challenges
  • Spatial thinking through building and testing

Education

E

A trilingual programme that grows with the child.

The Starbright Syllabus guides children from speaking to reading to writing across three languages — at a pace that respects how children naturally develop. Picture books are woven into every lesson to give language real context. Stroke order, pacing, and careful sequencing are part of how we teach.

Unhurried, and attentive to each child’s journey.

  • English, Mandarin, and Bahasa Melayu
  • The Starbright Syllabus
  • Mathematics: from hands-on exploration to deeper understanding
  • Picture books integrated into academic learning

Art

A

Art as a language. Inspired by Reggio Emilia.

Reggio Emilia sees every child as capable, curious, and full of their own ideas. At Starbright, art is how children think, feel, and communicate. Through diverse materials : natural, recycled, textured, they make choices, build confidence, and discover that their hands can say what words sometimes cannot.

Every child leaves knowing they have something worth expressing.

  • Light and shadow — builds observation and visual thinking
  • Diverse materials — develops creativity and decision-making
  • Child-directed process — builds confidence and independent expression

Music

M

Full-body music learning based on the Harmony Road programme.

Developed in the United States, Harmony Road brings music into the whole body. Children sing in three languages, move, play percussion, and explore instruments — building musical confidence through participation.

A child who learns music this way grows into someone who is comfortable being seen and heard.

Frequently asked questions

STEAM at Starbright stands for Science, Technology, Education, Art, and Music. Each element is taught with intention — Science through outdoor exploration and the natural world, Technology through hands-on building and design challenges, Education through our trilingual Starbright Syllabus, Art through Reggio-inspired materials and child-directed making, and Music through the Harmony Road programme. It is a curriculum designed to grow the whole child — grounded in knowledge, alive with creativity.

Reggio Emilia is an Italian educational philosophy that sees every child as capable, curious, and full of their own ideas. At Starbright, it shapes how we approach art, materials, and creative exploration.
The world children are growing into demands more than knowledge recall. Much like Singapore’s 21st Century Competencies framework, we believe communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity are what carry children forward. Reggio Emilia is how we nurture those qualities from the earliest years — developing children who are resilient, expressive, and ready for lifelong learning.

Yes. Starbright is built within the KSPK framework set by the Malaysian Ministry of Education. Beyond that, we integrate the UK EYFS framework, Reggio Emilia principles, and our own Starbright Syllabus — all aligned to what Malaysian children need as they move into the national school system.

Our school conversational language is English. We teach three languages every day — English through the Cambridge Early Years Series, Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu following the national KSPK specifications to ensure alignment with the Malaysian primary school curriculum. All three are developed through our Starbright Syllabus — from speaking to reading to writing.

Starbright’s curriculum is designed by Ms Wee Ai, a professional early years educator with dual academic training in both Eastern and Western educational traditions. She holds an MA in Early Years Education from University College London (Distinction) — ranked #1 in Education globally — and a BEd in Early Childhood Education from Beijing Normal University — ranked #1 in Education in China. During her studies at UCL, she worked directly within a London EYFS nursery setting, bringing lived experience to the frameworks she studied. Her curriculum draws intentionally from both traditions — the rigour and structure of Eastern pedagogy, and the child-centred, exploratory philosophy of the West — refined over years of practice into an approach genuinely suited to the Malaysian context.
